Ever go to the beach, the sandbar at the lake, or the park with the family and think “we need a little more to be heard and to have a good time?” This is where a portable Bluetooth speaker comes in handy and we recently had a chance to test one out – the Wet Sounds WS-L.

Wet Sounds touts the WS-L Portable as a high-output, marine-grade audio system designed for users who demand powerful sound in any environment. Built for marine, powersports, and outdoor applications, the WS-L Portable delivers exceptional volume, clarity, and durability in a fully portable, stackable, waterproof design.

The WS-L will produce up to 126 dB of audio, featuring a 10-inch woofer, high-frequency compression driver, and dual passive radiators to deliver deep bass, detailed mids, and crisp highs. The speaker is well built, with a clean design that can withstand pretty much anything you can throw at it. In our case, that is going to be hours in sun, being splashed with water and the family constantly adjusting the volume to compete with others on the lake.

With IP67 waterproof and dustproof protection, the Wet Sounds WS-L is built to handle harsh conditions, including water exposure, salt spray, dust, and impact. It is fully marine-ready and can be rinsed with fresh water after exposure to saltwater environments for long-term reliability.

After getting the WS-L home, we opened the box, fully charged the battery (~3 hours) and packed up for the lake. No pocket-sized speaker, the WS-L measures in at 16” wide, slightly over 16” tall and 15” deep, so you’ll need to consider the perfect spot for it. We positioned ours right at the back of the boat where the family and friends like to hang out and drown out the questionable music of others.

More About The WS-L

The WS-L supports Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity for simple wireless streaming and SKAA® wireless technology for low-latency multi-speaker pairing, allowing up to four units to be linked for expanded system performance. We only had one unit during our testing but pairing it with three others would certainly garner some attention and provide a wall of sound. The Wet Sounds SKAA® Command App provides control over EQ, lighting, stereo/mono configuration, and system settings.

A removable lithium-ion battery system provides extended playback time, delivering up to 40 hours at moderate volume or approximately 9 hours at maximum output. So far, we have about 18 hours of use at the lake on the original charge and have yet to run down the battery. If the battery happens to run out, you pull it out and pop in a new one to keep the music going! And, if you’re planning to be out as the sun goes down, there is integrated RGB LED lighting allowing for visual effects.

The Verdict

Overall, we were duly impressed with the Wet Sounds WS-L portable Bluetooth speaker. It provides clean sound and great battery life in a durable and waterproof package. If you’re looking for a durable marine grade speaker, it’s well worth checking out.

Editor’s Note: When Neil Rosenzweig over at our Outdoors group needed a little more sound at the sandbar, Off-Road.com arranged for him to receive a Wet Sounds WS-L Portable Speaker to test and review. Neil was not compensated for his review.
